How auto-fill works
When you add a new item to your collection, Owlect can automatically fill in details like name, year, images, and other fields. Just start typing the item name, and suggestions will appear.
1Open your collection and tap "Add Item"2Start typing the item name3Suggestions appear below the input field4Tap a suggestion to auto-fill all available fields5Review and adjust if needed, then saveWhat gets auto-filled
Depending on your collection type, different details are filled in automatically:
Board Games - name, year, player count, play time, rating, imagesMusic - artist, album, year, label, genre, format, cover artPokemon Cards - set, card number, rarity, HP, artist, imagesLEGO Sets - set number, theme, piece count, year, minifiguresBooks - author, ISBN, publisher, year, pages, cover imagesWatches - brand, model, reference, movement, case detailsCars - make, model, year, body type, engine detailsCoins - country, denomination, year, metal, catalog infoComic Books - series, issue, publisher, year, cover imagesFunko Pop - series, number, variantHot Wheels - series, collector number, year, colorRetro Games - platform, publisher, genre, year, imagesAuto-fill from a barcode
Typing a name is not the only way to start. If the item has a barcode, scanning it fills the same fields. See Adding Items for where the scan buttons are.
How much comes back depends on what you are collecting:
Books - scan the ISBN and Owlect finds the title, author, publisher, and coverMusic - scanning finds the exact pressing on Discogs, with artist, label, and cover artEverything else - Owlect fills in the product name and brand, but no cover imageOwlect reads EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, and ISBN-13.
A barcode identifies a product, so it works best on things sold in a box or with a printed cover. Loose figures, single cards, and graded slabs usually have no useful code - searching by name finds those.
If a code is not recognised, nothing breaks. The number is saved on the item and you fill in the rest yourself.
API keys
Most collection types work without any setup. A few require a free API key:
1Go to Settings in the app menu2Scroll to API Keys3Enter the key for the service you want to use4The key is saved to your accountCollection types that need API keys: LEGO, Watches, Coins, Comic Books, Retro Games.
Auto-fill vs. Sync
