Add Comics with Comic Vine Auto-Fill
Search a series — issue number and cover fill in
Add a comic by typing its series, and Owlect searches Comic Vine as you go, listing issues with their covers and years. Pick the issue you own and the series, issue number, cover year, and cover image fill in automatically — so each comic you add arrives with its cover as the photo instead of an empty record. Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, and indie titles all resolve the same way; publisher and condition are yours to grade.
How it works
Open your Comic Books collection and add an issue
Open a Comic Books collection and tap “Add Item”. The name field is the search box — Comic Vine lookup runs through Owlect’s server, so there is no key to paste.
Search by series and issue
Type the series name — add the issue number to narrow it. After three characters Owlect queries Comic Vine and lists matching issues, each with its cover thumbnail and year so you can spot the right printing.
Pick the issue you own
Tap your issue. Owlect auto-fills the series, issue number, and cover year, and uses the official cover image as the item’s photo.
Grade it and save
Set the publisher if it is not obvious from the series, grade the condition (Mint through Poor, including Fine, Very Fine, and Near Mint), then save and search for the next issue.
What gets imported
Filled from the Comic Vine issue you pick — publisher and condition stay yours to set.

Frequently asked questions
Can Owlect look up a comic by issue number?
Yes. Type the series name and add the issue number to pin down the exact issue. Owlect pulls the series, issue number, cover year, and cover image from Comic Vine when you select a match.
Which comic details fill in automatically?
Picking an issue auto-fills the series, issue number, and cover year, and sets the official cover as the photo. Publisher and condition are not always in the issue record, so you confirm the publisher and grade the comic yourself.
Which publishers does the lookup cover?
Comic Vine spans Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, indie publishers, and manga, so almost any series resolves. A very obscure or brand-new issue can be missing — add those by typing the fields and uploading your own cover.
Can I grade and mark comics for sale?
Yes. After the details fill in, set the condition with standard comic grades (Mint through Poor) and mark the issue for sale if you want — visitors to your public collection can see what is available. Those fields stay yours to set.
Can I add a long box all at once instead?
Auto-fill is one issue at a time. If your collection already lives in a spreadsheet, the CSV import maps Series, Issue #, Publisher, Year, and Condition columns and brings the whole list in together.
