Import Your BoardGameGeek Collection
Your BGG shelf, synced in one click
Import your BoardGameGeek collection into Owlect by entering your BGG username — no manual typing, no copy-paste. Owlect downloads every game with its cover image, player counts, play time, and your rating, then keeps your catalog in sync so your shelf is always up to date and ready to share. If you have been maintaining your collection on BGG for years, this is the fastest way to give it photos, sharing links, and a mobile-friendly home.
How it works
Create a Board Games collection
Sign in to Owlect with your Google account and create a new collection, choosing the Board Games type. It comes pre-configured with fields for publisher, player count, play time, condition, plays, and your rating — everything the sync is about to fill in for you.
Open the Import page
Inside your new collection, head to the Import page. Because this is a Board Games collection, Owlect shows a BoardGameGeek sync banner at the top with a single field: your username.
Enter your BGG username
Type the username you use on boardgamegeek.com. Owlect reads your public BGG collection through the official API, so there is no password to share and nothing to install.
Tap “Sync Now”
Owlect downloads your games with name, year published, minimum and maximum players, play time, and your BGG rating — cover images included. Base games and expansions are tagged separately, so you can hide expansions with one toggle whenever you want a cleaner view of your shelf.
What gets imported
Every game in your BGG collection arrives with the details already filled in — no retyping, no empty fields to chase down later.

Frequently asked questions
How often can I re-sync from BoardGameGeek?
On the free plan you can re-sync your BoardGameGeek collection every 7 days; Owlect Plus shortens that to daily. A re-sync adds games that are new on BGG and refreshes the details of existing entries, so your Owlect catalog keeps pace with your real shelf.
Does Owlect import expansions from BGG?
Yes. Owlect fetches base games and expansions in separate passes, so each entry is tagged correctly as a base game or an expansion. A “Hide Expansions” toggle then lets you browse just the base games whenever you want a tidier view of your collection.
Is there a limit to how many games Owlect imports?
A single BoardGameGeek sync imports up to 500 games — enough for almost any collection. Your plan limits apply on top of that: the free plan holds 30 items in total across up to 3 collections, and Owlect Plus raises those limits substantially.
Will a BGG re-sync overwrite my manual edits?
A re-sync updates game details with fresh BGG data, but photos you uploaded yourself are always preserved. If you would rather protect every manual edit, you can disable sync at any time in the integration settings on the Import page — your data stays exactly as you left it.
Do I need to make my BGG collection public?
Owlect reads your collection through the official BoardGameGeek API using only your username, so the games you want imported must be visible on your public BGG profile. Private entries stay private — Owlect never asks for your BGG password or account access.
